Wicked

Here's what I'm reading right now... took a short break from Patricia Cornwell. When I saw this book I just couldn't resist. So far it's (don't hate me) spellbinding!

Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West
FROM THE PUBLISHER
When Dorothy triumphed over the Wicked Witch of the West in L. Frank Baum's classic tale, we heard only her side of the story. But what about her arch-nemesis, the mysterious Witch? Where did she come from? How did she become so wicked? And what is the true nature of evil? Gregory Maguire creates a fantasy world so rich and vivid that we will never look at Oz the same way again. Wicked is about a land where animals talk and strive to be treated like first-class citizens, Munchkinlanders seek the comfort of middle-class stability, and the Tin Man becomes a victim of domestic violence. And then there is the little green-skinned girl named Elphaba, who will grow up to become the infamous Wicked Witch of the West, a smart, prickly, and misunderstood creature who challenges all our preconceived notions about the nature of good and evil.

Yet another Hurricane...

Hurricane Rita - Wow! Mother Nature must really be in a mood... I know just how she feels!

Satellite Imagery from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's website.

Rita is the 17th named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, making this the fourth-busiest season since record-keeping started in 1851.

My Step-son lives in Ft. Lauderdale and I sent him an email to check on him. I just had to share his response with you (he cracks me up). They were lucky this time, it passed them by. I hope he doesn't mind my sharing!

Hey there!

I just woke up, thought I heard some noise overnight and I haven't been watching the news.

I actually drove to Miami International Airport last night to pick up a package and I thought "wow, I picked a good night and a good time, there's nobody here."
I did think the winds were a bit gusty, but that's normal around here sometimes. I just whizzed to the airport and back and there was no traffic, no parking problems, no crowds of people. I never had a trip to MIA so good...I just forgot to notice that there were also NO PLANES. They had already moved all the airplanes to other airports and there were none waiting on the tarmac, none lined up in the sky...I can be just clueless sometimes, but hey you do know I am a blonde, right?

So when I listened to my voicemail this morning, it was a friend from Miami and she said "Oh another hurricane...well, at least it's not as bad as last time."

To which I said to myself: "What HURRICANE?"

I need to get out of bed more often.

I am fine, just wonder where the two plastic Adirondack chairs that were sitting on my front porch are.

Life Changes...

Sorry I haven't been around much. It seems like my life is in complete disarray and I'm living out of duffle bags and boxes.

I've moved out...

This means:
*I've added about 15 miles to my commute... ONE WAY, in this time of VERY high gas prices... geez!
*I'm stressed out.
*I'm away from my PC (I haven't been able to move it yet, much less line up internet service where I'm staying).
*My bike is still in the garage... the garage where I'm NOT staying.
*I'm stressed out...
*I'm away from my beloved Akita doggie.
*My buddy Fwed is in Europe... come back Fwed, I need you!
*Did I mention I'm STRESSED OUT??

I will survive... no other choice really. And my friends are rallying around me... well, except for Fwed (no, not really... I'm just picking on you!)

The lovely T ("skinny bitch"), Baby Gurl, The Scholar, J, Pizza Girl (AKA the Smoldering Ember)... they are my life lines and I love you guys. Yep, I love you too Fwed..... NOW COME BACK HERE!

Point of Origin by Patricia Cornwell...

Here's what I'm reading now... big surprise huh?

More Kay Scarpetta by Patricia Cornwell.

Here's a good article about her at USA Weekend Magazine.

I'm baaaaaaaack...

Yep, back to the real world.
Myrtle Beach was nice (yep, just nice). Ophelia was off the coast the whole time and that made for rough surf and breezy weather... but really nice temperatures.

This picture of Ophelia pretty much matches my life lately... pure turmoil.

I got back on Monday. Tuesday I had an appointment with a physiatrist. I have been having problems with my neck since my motorcycle accident in 2000. In the last year or so, the pain has gotten quite bad. The physiatrist gave me some injections. He said that for some people, the pain relief from the injections last months. For me it lasted a little over an hour... figures. They are also going to set me up with a physical therapist... joy.

Don't hate me 'cause I'm goin' on vacation!!

Well, a long weekend anyway... and Yes, In Myrtle Beach South Carolina!

I'm looking forward to it... but I'd had such plans. Well, suffice it to say MY PLANS TURNED TO SHIT! Sorry... but I was disappointed. you know, just a call from you would make me feel so much better... but you won't, will you?
NONE THE LESS, I'm headed to Myrtle Beach with my Goil Friends and I can't wait. So much so that I can't seem to go to sleep.

If I find an internet connection (that doesn't cost an arm and a leg) I'll stop by and drop you guys a line. Otherwise, I'll tell you all about it when I get back. TTFN...

do you still love me? L.Y.
